A small fund, made smaller by inflation each year — and kept alive by a few cheques of £5 and £10 from the Brethren, widows and friends of Astede Lodge.

Every gift goes back out again in the same year, as a confidential envelope to a Brother or widow, a small cheque to a foodbank in Leatherhead, or a contribution to the Surrey Festival's national Masonic relief work. We do not retain reserves beyond a single winter's prudence.
