1 · What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your device — your computer, phone or tablet — when you visit it. Cookies are used by most websites for a wide range of purposes: some essential (remembering you are logged in, remembering a choice you have made), some for analytics (counting visits), and some for advertising (following you around the web). Modern browsers can also store small bits of information in a related mechanism called localStorage, which works similarly.
2 · Our approach
We have made a deliberate choice as Trustees: we do not run any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking on this website. We do not know how many people read each page. We do not know where you came from. We do not retarget you on other sites. This is in keeping with the wider principle that we are a small, plainly-run fund and we do not need data we have not earned.
3 · The cookies and storage we do use
The complete list is:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| talbf-cookie-ack | Essential · localStorage | Remembers that you have dismissed the cookie banner. | Indefinite (until you clear it) |
| __cf_bm | Essential · Cloudflare | Helps Cloudflare distinguish humans from bots, used for security. | 30 minutes |
That is the complete list. We do not use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, Plausible, Fathom, or any other analytics or tracking platform.
4 · Third-party content
The contact page embeds a map from OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap may set its own cookies when the map iframe loads. We do not control those cookies; OpenStreetMap's privacy policy is available at wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.
We load three small assets from third-party content delivery networks: the Tailwind CSS script from cdn.tailwindcss.com, the Font Awesome icon library from cdnjs.cloudflare.com, and the Google Fonts stylesheet from fonts.googleapis.com. These do not set any cookies on the talbf.org domain.
5 · Managing cookies
You can clear cookies and localStorage in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not affect your ability to read or use this website. If you would like a refresher on how to do this in your browser, the Information Commissioner's Office maintains an excellent guide at ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/online/cookies.
6 · Children's data
This website is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly set any cookie or storage value that identifies a child.
7 · Changes to this policy
We will update this policy if we change our cookie usage. Significant changes will be noted in the quarterly dispatch. The 'last updated' date at the top of the page is authoritative.
8 · Contact
